Our Story

The Backstory

As natives of small towns on the Gulf Coast of Southern Alabama, seafood has always been a way of life for the Deakle Family. I was born and raised on a generational, coastal farm in St. Elmo, AL where we grew crops and pecans year-round. Like most people in those parts, fishing, shrimping, and crabbing started as a hobby and eventually became a side hustle to fuel my pastimes. My wife, raised on Dauphin Island surrounded by the Gulf of Mexico and Mobile Bay, had her own close ties to the water and came up like every other island kid working in bait shops and local restaurants. When we met and built our own family, the things we did to make money as teenagers became our hobbies as adults. We bought a house, bought a boat, and raised our kids just north of the Island where we could conveniently spend all of our free time boating, fishing, and immersing ourselves in the unique and fruitful ecosystems. In 2007, my former career in concrete brought us to Oklahoma where we fell in love with the comradery and community and ultimately, decided to park it. In 2009, my wife started her own business, Paint Your Art Out (PYAO), the first wine and paint studio in Oklahoma, where we have spent all of our time ever since and continue to operate today.

Anyway.....

After over a decade of living in Oklahoma, we have yet to find the quality of seafood we are accustomed to, and while we certainly consider ourselves Oklahomans at this point, one thing that hasn’t changed is our diet. We have searched high and low, but short of hauling it back with us from trips home, we've been unable to find what we are looking for in the Oklahoma City area (if you know, you know). So, after much consideration, tons of setbacks, and two years of looking at real estate, we are finally ready to bring back enough for everybody!

After announcing the closing of our brick and mortar for PYAO, I got a phone call from a former one-time customer asking if we would be interested in buying their building. We got in touch and despite being old and a little rundown, it felt like “us.” We also found that, ironically, the building had ties to Mobile which made it feel all the more perfect. After all the searching, it ended up being the building on the corner of Boulevard and Danforth that we have passed every day for 15 years that became our new home.

We renovated the building ourselves with many setbacks and issues, but we know that the harder you work, the luckier you get! So, after 14 months of renovations and installing the highest quality equipment to ensure the freshness of our product, we are finally stocked and ready! Our product line includes all of our favorite ingredients and extras from home. It’s simple like southern cooking with all the basics to turn anyone into a Creole cook. Everything we carry (shrimp, fish, andouille sausage, boudin, Cajun spices, and much more) is either fresh and wild caught from the Gulf of Mexico or local only to our original neck of the woods. We’re so excited to finally bring a little of our home to yours and hope to see you soon and often!
